Patrick Roy would play his first 11 seasons in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens. In his first season (1985-86) he would post an .875 save percentage in 47 games played while making the NHL All-Rookie Team. The 1986 playoffs was just as impressive for Roy as he would make 504 saves in 20 games played, a .923 save percentage and a 1.93 goals against average en route to winning his first Conn Smythe Trophy and Stanley Cup. Roy's performance in the 1985-86 season and postseason earned him the nickname "Saint Patrick" which he would keep throughout the remainder of his career.
